Crocodile, python and ostrich do not behave like calfskin, and they are not treated like it. Scales are repaired and re-laid, colour is rebuilt in thin passes rather than covered over, and the skin is conditioned so it keeps moving the way it should.

Scale repairMissing or split scales rebuilt and blended so the repair disappears into the pattern.
Colour restorationColour rebuilt in thin passes rather than covered over, so the skin keeps its depth.
ConditioningFed until the skin moves again — a dried exotic cracks along the scale lines and cannot be undone.
Edge rebuildWorn edges rebuilt to the original profile, then sealed against the humidity that took them.
